The Water Works Board in Sept. 2012 voted to hire Mike Mason of Forensic CPAs LLC to conduct a fraud risk investigation after employees in the distribution department were fired and a criminal investigation was launched into allegations of a complex overtime fraud scheme.Water Works officials have said they cannot talk about the report until litigation is resolved.The board approved $50,000 resolutions to Forensic in 2012 and March 2013. Initially, officials said Mason would conduct the first of three phases and report to the board's finance committee, composed of David Herring and board Chairman Jackie Robinson. After a year, there has been no public disclosure of the company's findings.Records show that Mason met with utility employees, Reebok One Guide during the period from Jan to July of this year, at a rate of $150 an hour. That period accounted for $80,849 and referenced the ongoing fraud case, according to documents.Mason was supposed to concentrate on the Water Works' overtime policies and procedures and also conduct an in depth review of pay, inventory, equipment and assets to prevent further abuse.
