Still, for those who helped turn the Storm into an indoor football powerhouse, it won't be easy to say goodbye. Several Storm alums are expected to be in attendance Saturday, and when the game ends, they and the Storm veteran players and coaches will know they've closed the book on an unforgettable era.

Then again, the players insist it was the fans who made the Arena experience what it was, so if they're given a better experience maybe their loyalty will be reinvigorated.

The Arena is adequate as a facility in comparison to other indoor arenas. The old turf was much harder than the current turf, and the end zones are smaller than normal. They have to be so they can squeeze the boards onto the floor surface. One drawback is that the majority of fans are seated above the railing, removed from the action.

"I love this place," said veteran wide receiver James Terry, sounding like he'd prefer to stay. "People always say it's too small, but it gets packed and it gets loud. It just gives you chills every time you're getting ready for the game to start and you hear the fans screaming and blowing those horns. I'm going to miss that."

"As much as we love this place and what it was, we're excited about something new," Riggs said. "There's some great memories in here, and it's definitely very special that we're finishing it by hosting a championship game, but it's Reebok Light Pink time to move on."

That's exactly what they plan to do, and while there's plenty of excitement heading to the new facility, veterans of the franchise admit it will be tough to say goodbye to the building that housed a minor league football breakthrough.

came here we really didn't know what we were getting into. It was so loud, and everyone was wearing red. You look around and it's like, this is unbelievable. After that it was always the game you looked forward to on the schedule."

There is some concern that the Storm may lose some of that home cooking in their new place. It's a bigger facility, which means unless attendance improves, it will be less full. More comfort may mean less of an advantage for the hosts.

Though details are still being finalized, the Storm will move into the Denny Sanford Premier Center next year, after 15 years of calling the Arena home.

fans. There's a lot of memories in this old place."

Since 2006, when the Storm dynasty kicked into high gear following their first championship, they've gone 81 3 at the Arena, a .964 winning percentage. With a win Saturday, the Storm would close the Arena era on a 42 game winning streak.

Attendance has waned a bit in recent years, but most games still bring about 3,500 (football capacity is 4,700), and those fans are loud. The Storm won all those championships with superior talent and coaching, but the fans played their part.

"It's older than most places, but it's unique," said coach Kurtiss Riggs. "The end zone and the field dimensions have mostly been an advantage for us. And the environment the fans created you go back a few years and there were never any empty seats in here. It was a tough place for people to play."

Storm quarterback Chris Dixon is one of the few players to have been a part of an upset of the Storm at the Arena. In 2009, he led the Billings Outlaws to a win over Sioux Falls on their home field. It was a big deal.

2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and this season. For most of those seasons in the mid 2000s, the place was full or close to it.

"For me personally it's going to be really emotional to close the curtains on this place," said assistant coach and former MVP quarterback Terrance Bryant. "It's been great for us. We've won, what, like 90 something percent of our games in this place? There isn't another place in the country that can say that. To close it out with a championship game in front of the home fans, that's a historic way to end it."

While the Skyforce and Stampede both arrived first and won championships at the Arena, no team has been as overwhelmingly successful in the old barn than the Storm. Of the seven championships they've won, six were clinched on the Arena turf. In their 14 seasons as the Storm (they were known as the Sioux Falls Cobras in 2000), Sioux Falls has gone 111 14 at the Arena, an .888 winning percentage.
